Would

The acoustic album you never saw coming, WOULD is a collection of folk, country, jazz, and singer-songwriter tunes we are very excited to share with the world.

1. Of all the words

Painting the beginning of the album with an ethereal landscape, OF ALL THE WORDS is an adaptation of a piece composed by Emma Dawn over 12 years ago, her very first original composition. Originally written for piano, we found the tune to fit the dulcimer excellently.

2. Would you (hold my hand)

WOULD YOU (HOLD MY HAND) is a sweet little tune about enjoying the small moments in life that bring you joy, and expressing it!

Sung by: Emma Dawn

Lyrics:

Staring at a blank page

Sun pours in my window

Hear the birds are chirping

And I can't help but smile

I walk down the sidewalk

It's like I'm floating in a dream

Breeze in my hair

Would you hold my hand

I sing

I sing because my heart is happy

I sing

And I sing

I sing because my heart is happy

I sing

There's mist across the valley

The moon glows softly overhead

A flash of light cuts through the night

The stars dance only for us

So I sing

I sing because my heart is happy

I sing

Oh I sing

I sing because you make me happy

Sing

3. Busy girl

BUSY GIRL is an upbeat gypsy-jazz tune that’ll get you dancing to the struggles of love and relationships.

Sung by: Riley Wilkes

Lyrics:

Busy girl

That's what you look like

Busy girl

That's what you act like

Saying things that make me feel right

Saying things that make us seem right

I'm trying hard to leave you

Shouldn't it be easy

Just like that

I'm trying to believe you

I know you're keeping busy

To get me back

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

You make it seem so real

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Busy girl

It's time to take a breath

Busy girl

It's time to understand

The real thing babe is all I ask of you

The real thing babe is the way I do

Crossroads lead to crossroads

Goodbyes lead to bygones

Just like that

Keep yourself busy

Thought it might be easy

Just like that

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

You make it seem so real

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

How you make me feel

How you make me feel

How you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

You make it seem so real

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

Outta my head, outta my head

That's how you make me feel

4. Steel doors

Surprising most of us with an intensely classic country sound, STEEL DOORS is the story of blockades and barriers in life, emotionally and otherwise.

Sung by: Light Goodfellow

Lyrics:

Just like that I woke up in a town quite like this

But every door was boarded up and the streets were all a mess

I stumbled my way to the nearest frying pan

But in the doorway stood a dusty wise old man

He said

Son it looks as though you’re feeling pretty low

And I’ve gotta say I’ve been there a time or two before

So before you lay your cards down and lay down in the ground

Remember that we all fight steel doors

He said his name was Arlo as he welcomed me inside

He told me what to leave alone like he had something to hide

He offered me a drink of something strong that had no taste

Said he had the feeling that I didn’t know the way

He said

Son it looks as though you’re feeling pretty low

And I’ve gotta say I’ve been there a time or two before

So before you lay your cards down and lay down in the ground

Remember that we all fight steel doors

He turned and led me to the back store room of his tiny little shop

Leaning on the wall was a heavy metal door

Deadbolts and chains and barricades made sure it never opened

I heard screams on the other side that Arlo couldn’t hear

He said

Son it looks as though you’re feeling pretty low

And I’ve gotta say I’ve been there a time or two before

This little cage of mine keeps in all that I find

And never lets this pain out to the world

So before you lay your cards down and lay down in the ground

Remember that we all fight steel doors

And then, wouldn’t you know it

That damn door fell down and crushed Arlo right then and there

5. diverted eyes (acoustic)

The folk-y acoustic version of DIVERTED EYES is a welcome addition to our acoustic collection. Featuring several new instruments and sounds, it manages to keep its original intense, mourning feel.

Sung by: Riley Wilkes

Lyrics:

Look out my window, snow falls and I can’t keep my mind straight
I hear it coming, diverted eyes are making their way back
I grow tired but now it makes it easy to leave out what’s next
I’m not ashamed but I try to push it down
I try to just leave it out

And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes

Who would’ve guessed it? It’s easier said but never done
Despite it all, I’m smiling at myself in the mirror
And the best part is that it always smiles right back at me
I’m not ashamed but I try to push it down
I will just leave it out

And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes

Look out my window, snow falls and I can’t keep my mind straight
I hear it coming, diverted eyes are making their way back

And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes

And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes
And I know I finally found my diverted eyes

6. give mi a sin

An ode to the irrational number E (Euler’s number), GIVE MI A SIN is a playful take based off of the first 16 decimals of the number translated to a chromatic scale. It was discovered that by doing this, the melody actually resolves to the key of E! Composed during her time at the University of Wyoming, this piece is one of Emma’s best.

7. like you

Every album needs a love song, and LIKE YOU is the perfect sweet introspective ode to young love.

Sung by: Jack Elliott, Riley Wilkes

Lyrics:

I think I want to wake up next to you

On this bright and shining day

Just watching you matching your shoes

Then let’s throw them all away

Who needs to go to class

I want to watch the day pass by with you

Why can’t we lie still

Together the world will be beautiful

Like you

Look at me right now

Everything is right now with you

Just flash me a smile and make the world beautiful

Like you

I think I want to stay right here with you

Through good times and the bad

No matter we’ll make it through

Until I see you once again

Who needs to go to class

I want to watch the day pass by with you

Why can’t we lie still

Together the world will be beautiful

Like you

Look at me right now

Everything is right now with you

Just flash me a smile and make the world beautiful

Like you

Who needs to go to class

I want to watch the day pass by with you

Why can’t we lie still

Together the world will be beautiful

Like you

Look at me right now

Everything is right now with you

Just flash me a smile and make the world beautiful

Like you

8. By blue stallion street

BY BLUE STALLION STREET is the much-needed true jazz venture for us Stallions. Enjoy this little original head with some tasty solos by Emma Dawn, Riley Wilkes, and Jack Elliott.

9. Ask (acoustic)

A fresh and folk-y take on one of our favorites, this acoustic cover of ASK is just what the doctor ordered.

Lyrics:

You could never seem to see

Though we both knew we were never meant to be

And you could never be for me

What we needed for to last

Though we knew it couldn't last

You could never seem to feel

What I knew should've been surreal

And you could never seem to grasp

'Cause I always had to ask

You know, I shouldn't have to ask

I shouldn't have to ask

What's going on inside

I shouldn't have to ask

What makes you want to hide

I shouldn't have to ask

I shouldn't have to ask

We could fuss and fight for days

And you knew what to do to make me stay

And you thought you had so much control

But you pushed it all away

Yeah you threw it all away

Threw it all away

Threw it all away

You threw it all away

I shouldn't have to ask

What's going on inside

I shouldn't have to ask

What makes you want to hide

I shouldn't have to ask

To spend some time away

I shouldn't have to ask

What makes you think this way

I shouldn't have to ask

I shouldn't have to ask

10. getting lost, pt. 2

The second part to a song yet to be released, GETTING LOST is a soft lament describing grief and loss.

Sung by: Jack Elliott

Lyrics:

A slow song yearns

It hurts and it's gone

I keep telling myself that I don't mind but

We both know I do

How did I ever feel joy in being lost

Now my hands just won't stop

You chose to choose your own path without me

Now my hands just won't stop shaking

I used to get lost inside your eyes

But now I'm drowning in the flood

You used to tell me things would be alright

But now you've gone I just feel lost

So lost

A call from a so-called brother

Now my hands just won't stop

A father without a daughter

Now my hands just won't stop shaking

It feels so long, so long ago

The feeling that nothing could ever scare me

We were running into the new unknown

But now you're gone I just feel lost

So lost

I keep telling myself that I don't mind but

We both know I do

How did I ever feel joy in being lost

Now my hands just won't stop

You chose to choose your own path without me

Now my hands just won't stop shaking

It feels so long, so long ago

The feeling nothing could ever scare me

I used to get lost inside your eyes

But now I'm drowning in the flood

You used to tell me things would be alright

But now you've gone I just feel lost

So lost

11. run away (with me)

Open your eyes to new possibilities, RUN AWAY (WITH ME) is about opening up to the new experiences that come along with new relationships.

Sung by: Jack Elliott

Lyrics:

I had a dream the other night

That you were here with me living the same life

We found these wonders of the world together

We changed the world for the better

Days were plain and full of gray

I was just wandering the static in my way

But color floods through my brain

The moment you stepped through my doorway

Vibrant reds and blues yellows and greens

They nearly awoke me from this fantasy

Your eyes were the deepest purple shone

Brighter than any dream that I had known

Run away with me to the land of possibility

Where we can be whoever we want to be

Run away with me to the land of possibility

Where we can be together

You pulled me from my lonely den

The cage I built for me, my only friend

Down that old dirt road we ran

Past the gate where I'd never been

Awesome skies and strange new structures

The wonders of the world looming over

The reflections in your eyes shine

And make me brave enough to face these fears of mine

New colors that I've never seen

New wonders that've never been

Because of us

Because of us

I had a dream the other night

That you were here with me living the same life

We found these wonders of the world together

We changed the world for the better

I turned to you to thank you

This journey changed the way that I see my life

But you said you knocked down my door

Just so you could have a friend to face your fears with

Run away with me to the land of possibility

Where we can be whoever we want to be

Run away with me to the land of possibility

Where we can be together

12. Seeds (acoustic)

Written to herself, Emma Dawn uses SEEDS to describe the feelings of dealing with mental illness. Not every day is perfect, and not every day is easy, we all know that too well.

Please reach out to us, or your friends or family, or your doctor if you are experiencing these feelings.

Sung by: Emma Dawn

Lyrics:

I saw you in your chair

But I knew better, I knew you weren't really there

Cause I heard you talking in your sleep

Dreaming "things would be better if only you weren't so weak"

I know the pain of feeling broken is hard to overcome

And when you get too far

It's hard to know what is real and what is not

You want to close your eyes forever, the world's better off

You want to fade away

But please don't fade away

There's a saying, I thought it was true

It goes "Be like the people around who take care of you"

And so I followed, I thought it was right

And I lost myself as I watched them go into the light

So if you say that I lack substance, I'd probably agree

Cause it's a little hard to grow as large

When you forgot to plant the seeds

And you know time keeps marching onwards, with or without us

So if you need me to

I will wait for you
