Today is probably going to be a giant metaphor.
If you spend so much time staring at your feet while you travel, you could get lost along the way! Paying attention to the present is VERY important, lest you trip and fall on something small. However, tunnel vision can get in the way. You start to stress over the small things, and even forget why you were walking in the first place.
Set your sights!
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
Now that I've gotten my nerdiness out of the way, seriously, things can get out of hand if you let them. I spent so much of my life just floating, letting my life happen to me. That can be a great life, but if you have a goal, you won't magically float there with life unless you start putting an effort in to travel in a direction.
Any goal is a good one, pick one that you like! Even if you aren't totally sure, practice thinking about what makes you happy and what you might like to do. It's okay to have more than one!
Start the thing!
Starting anything new can be incredibly overwhelming, I know! The cliche is that it's the hardest part. The cool thing is though, usually any kind of start is still, a start. :)
Research how other people have done similar things, figure out your values. Design a logo, work on your look. Find a business front or design a website.
Once you get that start, there's no stopping!
It's easy to get caught up in the little things...
Keep your head up
Always keep in mind that goal that got you started. Oftentimes new ideas are full of rabbit holes for you to explore and get lost in, so keeping the full picture in mind is always important.
In our case, it's remembering to keep making music! We're recording and planning gigs, but the little things like managing our social media and creating videos can sometimes feel like our whole job.
But at the end of the day, those things are just there to hopefully keep you guys interested while we work on new projects for you (recording takes time!;) ).
Things will take time
So don't get discouraged! Any successful person had to do what they did consistently for quite a while to get their ball rolling. Growth is almost always exponential, and so of course, the beginning is always the slowest and hardest part.
You will find your supporters as time goes on, humans are pretty cool that way. Support your friends and family in the meantime, and watch your idea grow over time as your supporters share what you are doing with their friends and family.
It can be very easy to get discouraged during this time, and it can even feel like a failure sometimes. But try to add something new to the flame, experiment to see what helps you and your idea grow.
(Almost) any idea has its place
Within reason, of course. Don't hurt people. :)
Otherwise, even if not mainstream, ideas are what makes humanity amazing. It helps our culture evolve and grow!
So try some things! Ask for help if you need it! Do everything to the best of your abilities, but remember to not get too worried about the little things. Don't lose sight of why you started!
Thank you so much for being here. Leave me a comment if you liked this (or if you didn't!).
Without you, we wouldn't have much, and we appreciate that more than you know. Thoughtfully and respectfully from all of us in Fat Stallion-
